The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is asking for your help to inform local
businesses of important changes coming to the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards used by
over 1.2 million customers in Los Angeles County to access essential food and cash benefits via
the CalFresh, CalWORKs, and General Relief programs. Soon, the California Department of
Social Services (CDSS) will begin replacing current EBT cards with more secure chip/tap cards.
Businesses that currently accept EBT cards will need to update their payment processing systems in order to accept the new EBT chip/tap cards.

Chip/tap cards will help California reduce EBT theft by making card transactions more secure,
protecting retailers and customers from the devastating impact of stolen benefits. Merchants and
financial institutions must contact their Point of Sale (POS) Service Provider as soon as possible
to request updates to their payment processing systems to accept EBT chip/tap cards and to
ensure their current systems will fall back to the magnetic stripe during this transition period. We
are asking for your help in sharing the attached informational flyers and notices from CDSS with
the local business community to ensure there are no service disruptions for EBT merchants and
    cardholders.

Additional information can be found by searching “SNAP EBT Modernization” in your browser or
by visiting the USDA website at https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/ebt/modernization. In addition to
the resources provided by CDSS, we have enclosed a flyer that provides valuable tips to help
businesses protect themselves and their customers from EBT skimming.

We truly appreciate your help in safeguarding the public’s benefits.

The City of Santa Clarita will soon begin construction work on the annual 2024 -2025 Road Rehab Program, which uses slurry seal and overlay road treatment to improve City roadways, resurfacing and coating street surfaces, crack sealing, reconstruction and maintenance of roads throughout the City. Construction on the Road Rehab project is anticipated to begin during the week of July 8, 2024, and will continue throughout the summer months.

Electronic message boards will be installed in affected neighborhoods, along with social media and physical flyers, notifying residents of the anticipated schedule for construction activities. Additionally, residents will receive direct notices regarding the upcoming work to ensure they stay well-informed about the progress and any potential disruptions that may occur. The City will post updates, including construction dates and locations on all social media platforms using #SCRoadRehab. Please be sure to check the City’s pages, @CityOfSantaClarita, or @SantaClarita on X (formerly Twitter), periodically to remain informed of any changes.

Construction will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday on residential streets, while work on arterial roads will occur at night between 7:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. to reduce traffic impacts.

Residents are asked to be aware of work being done in and around their neighborhoods and plan their routes accordingly. Traffic and “No Parking” signs will be posted to inform motorists of upcoming construction and potential lane closures. Residents are asked to reduce their speed through construction zones.

The City of Santa Clarita thanks community members in advance for their patience and support of this project. The City’s Road Rehab website, SantaClarita.gov/RoadRehab, features Road Rehab Project locations, frequently asked questions and instructions on what you should do if your street is part of the program this year. All measures will be taken to ensure the project is completed safely and promptly. For questions or concerns, please contact the project hotline at (661) 290-2291.

The combined company is operating under the name “Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.”

Cedar Fair’s units and shares of Former Six Flags’ common stock ceased trading at the close of the New York Stock Exchange on July 1, 2024. Beginning tomorrow, July 2, shares of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation’s common stock will start trading on the NYSE under the ticker symbol “FUN.”

Under the terms of the merger agreement, Cedar Fair unitholders received one share of common stock in Six Flags Entertainment Corporation for each unit owned, and Former Six Flags shareholders received 0.5800 shares of common stock in Six Flags Entertainment Corporation for each share owned.

With an excessive heat warning in effect this week, the City of Santa Clarita strongly urges residents to prioritize heat safety and preparedness during the Fourth of July Parade and the holiday weekend.

Residents planning to attend the parade are encouraged to stay hydrated by bringing extra water. Wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and bring sunscreen to reapply throughout the day. Consider wearing hats and bringing umbrellas to stay out of direct sunlight. Those who are sensitive to heat or have health conditions that increase the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, are encouraged to stay home and watch the parade on the City’s Facebook page. If any attendees begin to feel heat-related illness symptoms, they are encouraged to go to any of the six announcer locations along the parade route, or alert any City staff members or Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies.

Another way to beat the heat is by visiting any of our eight City pools on July 4. The Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, Presented by Kaiser Permanente (20850 Centre Pointe Parkway) will be open for Lap Swim from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Recreational Swim from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. All other park pools will be open from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. For pool locations and hours, please visit SantaClarita.gov/Aquatics or call (661) 250-3740.

Additionally, residents can head over to The Cube – Ice and Entertainment Center, Powered by FivePoint Valencia (27745 Smyth Drive) where the facility stays a cool 54 degrees. The facility is open until 4:30 p.m. on July 4, making it the perfect place to enjoy a morning or afternoon on the ice and grab food and drinks from The Grille and The Top Shelf.

Remember, ALL fireworks are illegal in the Santa Clarita Valley, including ones labeled safe and sane. All it takes is one spark to start a fire. With high temperatures and elevated fire danger expected throughout the week, residents are encouraged to be prepared and have an emergency supply kit and family action plan ready. To learn more and get tips on summer emergencies or preparing your home for fire season, please visit SantaClarita.gov/Emergency-Management.
