Building an Affordable California
|
|
Californians will have an opportunity this November to take action to help reduce the costs of building and maintaining the electric grid and other essential infrastructure through the Building an Affordable California Act, which has qualified for the ballot and will appear as Proposition 45. The measure streamlines project approvals by setting firm timelines and reducing duplicative legal challenges — key drivers of cost increases — helping infrastructure projects like those built by SCE move forward more quickly and affordably.
By accelerating delivery of clean energy, transmission, and wildfire mitigation investments, the Act aims to lower overall project costs and help reduce pressure on customer bills while maintaining strong environmental protections. Critical infrastructure projects have faced delays of up to two decades, increasing costs and impacting reliability, underscoring the need for a more predictable and efficient approval process. Learn more about the measure and the growing coalition of supporters at Build Affordable California.

Updates to SCE's Main Panel Upgrade Process
SCE is implementing an updated Main Panel Upgrade (MPU) process to align with California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requirements and improve consistency across service areas. Under this model, MPU work follows a same day disconnect and reconnect approach, where Edison performs the de-energization and re-energization of service, while licensed contractors complete the panel upgrade.
For safety and compliance reasons, panel changes are not permitted to be performed while energized (“hot”), and only authorized SCE personnel may disconnect or reconnect electric service. Additionally, a completed and approved city (AHJ) inspection is required prior to reconnection, and service cannot be restored without verification of that inspection.
We recognize that local inspection practices and resource availability may vary and are committed to working collaboratively with your agency to ensure alignment, support same day coordination, and minimize impacts to customers. If you have any questions regarding this new process, please feel free to reach out to your Government Relations Manager.

New All-Hazard Portal for Public Safety Partners
SCE is committed to supporting public safety partners with timely information and situational awareness before, during and after emergencies. To help partners prepare for a range of hazards, SCE has launched the All-Hazards Portal, a new web-based tool that provides access to key information such as live outage data, storm updates, weather camera views, EV charging station locations and other emergency preparedness resources. Public safety partners, as defined by the CPUC, include local, state and federal emergency responders, water and wastewater agencies, communications service providers, transportation authorities, community choice aggregators and publicly owned utilities. Eligible partners can register for the portal here: All-Hazards Login

Frequently Asked Questions

|
Question: With the warmer summer weather starting to kick in, what are some helpful tips to help prevent heat illness?
Answer: You can help prevent heat illness by protecting yourself and proactively addressing hydration. Some good tips include:
· Hydrate frequently: Frequently drinking small quantities of water is key. During hot weather, you should drink four, 8-ounce cups of water per hour.
· Avoid dehydrators: Be mindful of caffeinated beverages, energy drinks, and medications that can contribute to dehydration.
· Take frequent breaks: Find ways to cool down. Use fans, take cool showers, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours 10am to 4pm. If outdoors, seek shaded areas, use cooling towels, hats for sun protection.
